Football is crazy. Who would have thought that Egypt in 3 matches with 3 wins and South Africa in 3 matches with 1 win and 2 losses and virtually out would then go on to beat Egypt, the hosts for that matter? This is mad! Even Morocco that was unbeaten all group stage, beaten by Benin, then Cameroon who had previously been unbeaten and won all 3 group games dumped out by a less than impressive Nigeria. Football just does your head in sometimes.
I must confess here that I didn't see it coming. I mean, I knew that the Banana bafana team had it in them, but I just didn't see the win going their way. It goes without saying that the Pharaoh's gave a good show of football in this AFCON, 4 games 3 wins and 1 loss. South Africa with a less compelling record makes it to the quarter finals at the expense of their host, Egypt, thanks to the late goal of Lorch.
I think it's instructive to note here that while beginnings are definitely good, endings are way better. Good Bafana Bafana.
