So you pay on the loan once a year instead of every month. While that might sound good, if they expect a large sum, it's effectively the same thing. But maybe it works out well with the seasonal nature of farming where you pretty much are waiting for harvest to reap the rewards for the year.

You mean the banks are waiting to reap the rewards for the year. If these farmers can do without the loans they should stay clear because these loans are akin to bondage. You work for the bank essentially. Some of these farmers are spending all their lives paying back these loans.
The banks talk as if they try to be helpful but they are like parasites living off of the labor of others.
