- After 30 years, the African National Congress (ANC) lost its majority in Parliament in South Africa's recent election, getting 40.1% of the vote.
- To form a government, the ANC had to create a coalition with nine other parties, including the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
