COSATU vows to continue to fight for government workers to hold political office
  • COSATU spent R5 million on legal fees to support government employees' right to hold political office, which was challenged by the Municipal Systems Amendment Act in 2011.
  • The South African Municipal Workers Union, a COSATU affiliate, successfully overturned the act in the Labour Court, but the national government has appealed the ruling at the Constitutional Court, claiming it infringes on workers' constitutional rights.
