Parly’s Home Affairs committee proposes doubling threshold of funding for political parties
  • The Parliament's Home Affairs committee has agreed to increase the annual amount of money political parties and independents can receive from private donors to R30 million and double the threshold for declaring donations to R200,000.
  • This decision comes after public consultations and advice from Parliament's budget office, aiming to address concerns that the previous limits were hindering new parties and democracy in South Africa.
  • The committee's report will now be sent to the National Assembly for approval before President Cyril Ramaphosa can amend the existing donation limits.
