- ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula disagreed with Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, who claimed the ANC chose Khayelitsha for its rally because it couldn't book larger venues in the city.
- Mbalula explained that the decision to hold the rally in Khayelitsha was intentional, as requested by the Western Cape region of the ANC, despite suggestions to go elsewhere.
