- The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) in Kenya has increased the water levy prices, resulting in a Ksh1.35 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) charge on electricity bills starting in December 2024.
- This means that Kenyans will see an increase in their electricity bills due to the new levy based on hydropower-generated electricity usage, with the price rising from Ksh28.57 to Ksh29.92 per kWh.
- Additionally, there is a proposal to amend the Energy Act to lower energy costs by allowing various stakeholders to nominate representatives to the board of the energy regulator to ensure their voices are heard in decision-making processes, including setting electricity prices.
