- Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei proposed renaming the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) after the late radio veteran Lenard Mambo Mbotela to honor his media career and inspire aspiring journalists.
- The senator also suggested naming streets in Kenyan towns after Mbotela, who passed away at the age of 85 after a long career in broadcasting, including hosting the popular "Je, Huu ni Uungwana?" television show.
