- Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has announced he will run for a fifth term despite widespread protests, but he promises not to serve a full term if re-elected.
- His decision has sparked significant demonstrations, particularly among the youth, who are concerned about the country's future and his ability to lead due to his health issues.
It is super ridiculous whenever i see leaders try turning political posts into family agenda. In same Africa, we have had those who died in office, those who has lived more years has the president dictating things the way they wish. Fifth term is total bull shit and i really commend the efforts of the populace to voice out this time around, they have the power in their hands and they can choose whoever they wish to run the affairs of their country. No Methuselah is needed anymore in government when you can actually champion your tenure, creating meaningful things to show as records which will in return help your cause as well your party's cause in being trusted for another tenure by the electorates.
It is still shocking to see countries across the globe with rulers who fail to owe the country’s citizens their democratic voting rights by being in power longer than they are supposed to. Perhaps the prominence of such cases in Africa could be owed to colonialism, which after independence left a scramble for power.
