Govt depts now allowed to enlist IT services outside of SITA
  • Government departments can now seek IT services from providers other than the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) by following new regulations outlined by Communications Minister Solly Malatsi.
  • If a department believes SITA cannot meet its IT needs efficiently and cost-effectively, it can request services from private providers after following a specific procedure, with SITA having ten days to respond to the request.
  • These changes have caused tension between Malatsi and Parliament's portfolio committee, with concerns raised about SITA's ability to provide adequate services to government departments.
