- Samsung East Africa and the Safaricom Foundation have partnered to support an accelerated learning program in Bungoma County, aiming to help students improve their literacy and numeracy skills quickly.
- The program, launched at Matumbufu Primary School, will involve 40 schools in each of the three counties and provide learners with Samsung Galaxy 8.0 tablets to access approved curriculum materials.
I wish they tracked the outcome of these initiatives. It would be nice to know how the children who were able to have these tablets compared with the rest. Is it a significant improvement? Does it not matter? I think it probably does, but without tracking these things we're left guessing as to the impact of these tablets. Hopefully they publish some sort of study.
But it's a great step either way. Good for those kids and schools who receive these.
That would be nice. I was just reading up on the Next Robotics Legend Competition and how they did a 6 weeks intensive training program for the children. I think something like that would be better than just giving these tablets. Tablets and computers are tools, but if you don't have some kind of intensive training then they might not be as effective as you would like. Like any tool, you have to learn how to use it effectively. It's not going to magically change the trajectory of these schools.
