Google And Facebook To Build Own Undersea Cables Around Africa
  • Google is funding a new undersea cable called Equiano that will run from Portugal down the west coast of Africa to Cape Town, South Africa, with multiple landing points along the way.
  • This cable will have 20 times more network capacity than previous cables and will use optical switching at the fiber-pair level, making it more flexible in allocating capacity.
